About Us

The original lure, a creation of Gerry Swarthout, was hand-made by Gerry and his family and distributed to many bait and tackle shops and thousands of individual fishermen in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

The lure, typically used for freshwater fishing, achieved an affectionate, “legendary status” among fishermen in the northern United States, the Upper Peninsula areas of Michigan and also in Canada for its ability to reel in large salmon, bass and other species commonly found in these areas.

Armed with the knowledge that the demand for the “Ping-A-T” is just as strong now as it was in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, possibly more so, because “absence makes the heart grow fonder,” and with the vast opportunities available today to market the lure on the Internet as well as other venues, we plan to begin trading in business as “Swarthout’s Original Ping-A-T Lure”.

‘Self Righting Fish Lure’

Molded of Tenite! Stainless Steel Screw Eyes

4x Strong Hooks on 3 ¾”

Available in over 20 colors.

The Ping-A-T has taken every species of game fish in the United States and Canada.

The Ping-A-T is a high quality lure made extra strong and durable for trophy size fish. We strongly recommend good equipment when using this lure.

The Ping-A-T is unique in that it will right itself in the water. If you desire the lure to surface quickly, simply reel fast and the lure will turn over and come to the top and then right itself. With this feature you can quickly determine if you are reeling or trolling too fast. ADJUST YOUR SPEED TO THE ACTION OF THE LURE.

The Ping-A-T is also an excellent top water lure. For big bass, let the lure lay on the surface until all wakes have disappeared then twitch the lure slightly. Take a few minutes to get acquainted with the Ping-A-T and you will find you have a lure with unlimited versatility.

The Ping-A-T is a proven killer on Coho, Chinook, Steelhead, Pike, Bass, Walleye, Lake Trout and Jumbo Perch.

The Ping-A-T is unsurpassed for Coho and Chinook Salmon. Salmon are a very wary fish. They are also extremely sensitive to light. If you are fishing in shallow water, fish early in the morning before the sun is up for best results. On cloudy or rainy days they will hit all day long if you keep away from the crowds. If the water is fairly deep, place a sinker ahead of the lure and reel slowly. Use at least a 20lb. test line and the best rod and reel you can afford when fishing for salmon. MAKE SURE YOUR DRAG WORKS.

The Ping-A-T works very well with downriggers. We suggest you place the lure approximately 24 inches in back of your flasher. If you cannot slow your boat down to match the action of the lure, simply attach a one-inch long rubber core sinker 12 inches ahead of the lure.

The Ping-A-T is designed to catch fish. Give it a try, we’re sure you will like the results.
